Slipped Away: Penguins 6, Senators 5 (SO)

I'm upset about this game, can you guess why?

It's not the fact the Senators lost. It's the fact that the Senators had a 2-0 lead and let it slip away. Then they fell behind 3-2 and then they managed to get up 5-3 and then once again let the lead slip away.

I'd like to think this team doesn't actually enjoy playing catch-up. I'd find it doubly troubling if they felt that they played better through adversity and needed to create their own adversity. That's just sadistic!

For somebody who's not supposed to be posting much, the boys sure have found a way to keep me typing angrily. This is not a good thing. You guys are not supposed to stir so many frustrating thoughts in me.

Jarkko Ruutu with the winner in the shootout. Ruutu also had two diving penalties this game and he got the winner in the shootout. Alfie wasn't in the shootout. Something must be up as he wasn't out in the last shift for OT. He's second in the league scoring, but the shootout went into the second round and he still wasn't in. They outshot the Penguins 36-25 and they still lost. They had a flurry of shots on goal but Dany Sabourin played great in relief of Marc-Andre Fleury. And as a fan, it's just not fair they couldn't come out with a win.

Then again, I shouldn't complain. The Senators are still a good team, but I'm afraid they're buying into their own hype now. Or maybe people have just caught on, I don't know. I'm not sure. Martin Gerber didn't have a strong game but I suppose he's allowed once in awhile. Jason Spezza had a good game but too bad his third goal came in the shoot-out.

I don't know what to think, and frankly I feel a bit guilty. A part of me knew and feared that the wheels would fall off sooner or later. It seemed too good to be true. Maybe if they can get it over early they'll find their groove again. Everybody is due for a slump once in awhile, right?

Maybe we just need Randy Robitaille back. Who knew?

Alexander Nikulin only got just over 5 minutes of ice-time in his NHL debut. Daniel Alfredsson averaged over 25 minutes. Please don't get tired Alfie, this team needs you.

It's time to think happy thoughts: At least we got a point! Yay happy good time! And Dear NHL: Not that tonight was by any means a show of spectacular goaltending but I don't really know if scoring is as huge of an issue as you think it is.

Sorry, Sherry, but as a Penguins fan here comes your trash talk:

Ooooh, that first OT loss always hurts, doesn't it.

Two-game losing streak? Oh yeah, definitely time to panic. ;)
I mean, Gerber could lose his picture in the standings!

And as a fan, it's totally fair that they couldn't come out with a win. Karma's gotta balance sometime.

Hey, y'know, it's just not Thanksgiving where they're playing.

Better luck re-dominating the other teams. (and thanks for the point, we really do appreciate it.)

ds, I'm not as concerned about the loss as I am about the fashion in which they lost. The Senators could have easily had this game but they let it slip them by and frankly with the heat turned up as the season goes on (ironically, coinciding with the decrease in temperature outside), they just can't be careless like they have been.

And as a fan, you're allowed to wank. It's never fair when your team loses.

Do I see a Simpsons reference in the panic meter?

It was a disappointing game for sure...but I'm more worried about Alfie =S

Hi Sherry: I heard on the Team this morning that Alfie tweaked his groin during the game last night. Thats likely why he wasn't out in OT and the shoot out. The curse of Hasek lives!

IS: We're full of Simpsons' references here. It's a way ofe life at SI HQ!

Anon: I saw the news story on TSN just now. How many sheep do we have to sacrifice to get the curse well and away?

Maybe the curse will go away when Hasek retires? Or reinjures himself? When are the next Olympics?

Anonymous, unfortunately two years away. But didn't he injure himself already this season? I think it was a hip injury though so maybe it has to be another groin injury to qualify. Dang it!
