Denial: Some Dudes 2, Capitals 4

I shall preface this somewhat unnecessarily melodramatic entry with some happier news. For some reason, somebody felt that I was worthy to be nominated for this year's Canadian Blog Awards. The voting is currently in Round 1, so if you feel like I'm worth a vote, you can do so by clicking on the link above and finding the poll under "Best Sports Blog" and take a look at some of the other blog categories. Or go here straight to the poll. Thanks a bunch!

Okay, so here's the thing, right? The Senators didn't lose tonight's game against the Capitals because this game never happened, right? It started snowing and everybody just started freaking out and due to supernatural circumstances, this game was forced to be canceled. Right?

Because there is no way the Senators would turn in such a craptacular effort and purposely WANT to be embarrassed by a team they've struggled against and let them sweep the season series against them, especially after an already lackluster performance against the Islanders just a couple of days ago. Right?

On the one hand, I should be happy for the Capitals for sweeping the season series. They skated hard and really outplayed the Senators to them and I'm happy for them. I've got nothing against them so I'll just leave it at that.

On the other hand, life without Heatley is looking very, very bleak right now. And Ray Emery did not look strong at all tonight. I'll give you that Alex Ovechkin's PPG was a bit of a fluke but where was he on any one of Alex Semin's goals? Don't get me wrong, numbers-wise compared to Martin Gerber's performance lately, he deserved the start tonight. But yeesh-kebab that was not pleasant game to bear witness to tonight.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to self-medicate.

Before I find myself banned from Scarlett Ice for forever and ever, amen, I just want to let you know how much I enjoy your writing, Sherry. This is a great hockey blog; the only improvement possible would be if it were about the Caps.

That being said--yeah, the Sens seemed flat, except for the second half of the second. Not surprisingly, that's when they scored their two goals; I think Semin's unassisted g sucked the life out of the Sens.

I'll continue to vote for you, if the poll allows us to stuff the box.

Victor, luckily for you the season series is over. Should you guys make the playoffs however...(I'm just kidding of course).

And thank you very much for your kind words, you have no idea how grateful I am to hear that from the readers :)

I'm trying to stay even keeled about this. I'm sure getting used to live without Heatley will be an adjustment but I just hope they act their act together soon and you're right, you could really see the momentum shifting after that.

Unfortunately, ballot stuffing isn't allowed this year but I appreciate the sentiment.

No ballot stuffing? OUTRAGE! Don't they know I'm an American!?!?!?!?

Sheerrryy!!... ARG!!!! thats all i can say. And oh - my biggest fear now?! Is that the caps somehow make it in to 8th place and we play them 1st round and we get our asses handed to us.

And congrats on the nomination. Will be voting for you today!

OH - not sure if you caught the post game show on the team, but Gord Wilson went off on Ray Emery. It was a 1-2 minute rant. Classic. It is about time someone said it.

Victor, I'm sorry here in 'Canada' we like to do things the 'proper' way. Pfft, we're losers, I know!

PaV, I didn't hear the rant but I can imagine it. Good ol' Gord...if it's archived or uploaded somewhere, I'd love to hear it though.

It's sad to think how excited I was back in November when I bought my tickets to the two Sens games in Washington :(

Emery was awful last night, but I think Joe Corvo should also be called out for his fault on the Caps' second and fourth goals. I'm willing to forgive him for his errant pass that led to Semin's unassisted goal. It was dumb, but it happens. However I'm dumbfounded as to why he quit on the play that led to the last goal. I know he lost his stick, but that's no excuse to just drift off into the corner and leave your man with the puck undefended behind the net. Ridiculous.

Sorry for the rant, Sherry! It was really frustrating to have to witness the two games in Washington in person :) Keep up the great work!

sigh! such a let down after Detroit.

  8. # Blogger Nadine

What, no drink indicator on this one? I was so sure that handy little chart would make a cameo for this one.

    Congrats on the nomination!

  9. # Blogger Sherry

Nick, I'm really sorry you had to be witness to that.

I'm really torn on Corvo. When he's bad he's absolutely brutal but there are times when he does show flashes of brilliance. I think a lot of it has to do where his head is at the moment.

And don't worry, trust me your rants are more than welcome here :)

Blitzen, no kidding. That's two in a row!

Nadine, the panic metre only makes appearances for games that actually happened, and since we've already established that this one didn't...:P

And thanks so much! I don't think I'll make the cut but I'm extremely flattered nonetheless!

I'll be sure and pimp this on my blog, and maybe answer your challenge if I get a free minute. Life has been crazy since I got back to school.

  11. # Blogger Victor

Ningwers, was that you in the back row of section 113? If so, I was the dude about four rows in front of you in the Kozlov jersey.

I also noticed you left with about six minutes to go in the game :P

  12. # Blogger ningwers

    Hahaha

No, I was in my usual place up the cheap seats (Sections 413 on New Years and 430 on Tuesday). I was wearing my old white Sens jersey. I bought a six game pack, so I'll be there for least four more Caps games. I'm especially looking forward to booing the Leafs on March 1st!

Oh, and I never leave a game early :) Hell, I didn't even leave Game 5 of the Stanley Cup early. Watching the Ducks lift the Cup sucked, but I figured I owed it to the team to watch it out till the bitter end.

  13. # Blogger Sherry

Kirsten, thanks for the pimpage and I would LOVE IT if you answered the challenge.

I never leave a game early either. I stay until the bitter end because I really like seeing the 3 star selections.

Watching the Ducks lift the Cup sucked, but I figured I owed it to the team to watch it out till the bitter end.

I feared that would happen so I avoided the television for pretty much three days straight.

  14. # Blogger Kirsten

Then the challenge shall be answered.

PS, I'm making it my personal mission to get you some votes.

  15. # Blogger Sherry

Kirsten, you are too sweet. Thanks so much!
