Lord Help Us

To get you guys set for the All-Star weekend comes news that Alyssa Milano will be attending the festivities to launch a NHL version of her clothing line. Milano has a MLB line out called "Touch" that's targeted for female fans:

"I am really excited about (my) partnership with the National HockeyLeague," said Milano. "I am looking forward to giving female hockey fans fashion apparel as unique and special as the sport they love."--Canada.com

I've ranted at considerable length about the lack of non-offensive choices for female fan apparel offered by the NHL. Now, I might have absolutely gone crazy but I don't hate that shirt she's wearing and after doing some perusing, asides from this odd, confusing Kimono-type jersey, the line she has out for MLB really isn't all that bad. Asides from one or two head-scratchers, the designs are fairly simple and are cut for the female form so I'll reserve judgment on this line until it actually comes out. Just as long there aren't pink "I <3 (Insert Player/Team Here)" t-shirts than it'll be a step-up (I'm looking at you, Crosby). In the interest of full disclosure, I have a top that is not sport related in the exact same cut as the one she's wearing in the picture (except not as um...low). That being said, what the heck is this supposed to be?

Ladies...has a more in-depth look at Milano's clothing line.

SLC, you know for some reason I had a feeling that the males in the audience would enjoy this post :P

I know I have ranted on this before, but it is so bizarre that a woman who was banned by several team's locker rooms in the early 90's for being a professional puck bunny is now being embraced by the league.

    (And the clothes are terrible.)

You know, I don't hate a lot of those - for some reason, and it might just be because I have this thing with off the shoulder shirts lately, I even really like the Dodgers one. But I notice the ones I like are the ones that aren't covered in busy non-sports-related patterns with tiny little logo plastered on somewhere. I don't know, if I want to wear a shirt of my favorite sports team, I want it to be obnoxiously proclaiming my love, not burying it in a corner underneath some argyle.

I wonder if the fact that hockey isn't the summer 90 degree weather outdoor sport that baseball is will have any bearing on her designs.

TheStarterWife, thanks for visiting! And second, I do find that pretty ironic but I think given the league is currently on life support, it really needs to take advantage of whatever 'celebrity support' is headed their way. Hey, she can make clothes without actually going anywhere near the players right? Doesn't she only like baseball players now, anyways?

Steph, I'm frankly not convinced that Alyssa would care so much about whether or not it's weather appropriate but I'm with you with obnoxiously proclaiming my love for a team. The thing is though, those are clothes I would wear anyways (generally) so I suppose there's nothing wrong with having a team logo on there.

Her clothing isn't too bad, really, especially when in comparison with what the NHL is currently offering for female sports wear. I'm all right with the different feminine designs...as long as they show their team, and preferably the team colors, I think it's fine. I won't touch the fact that most of them would be impractical to wear to an ice rink; another thing for another day.

My question is: hockey tickets and merchandise are already wallet-breaking...check out her price tags for her MLB line, what is that going to look like when combined with the NHL's inflation? I'm just a poor broke student, and when I graduate, I'll be working two jobs and still be a poor, broke vet tech...I can't afford something like that. Where is all the affordable merchandise?

Elly, the whole impracticality issue is what turned me off at first but then Alanah over at Canucks and Beyond made a good point that these clothes aren't really meant for the arena but for 'everyday where' for the ladies which i guess translates into marketing for the league.

I just checked out the prices myself. I haven't even been able to afford a jersey yet which is probably number one on my list for apparel forget about anything else!
