The Waiting Game - Buyout Period Begins

The buyout period in the NHL officially began today and teams will have until June 30th to notify players that they will be bought out of their contracts. Of course, it is already expected that Ray Emery will be bought out of his contract. There was some speculation that perhaps with Craig Hartsburg signing on to be the coach that Emery will get another chance, Hartsburg having coached Emery in the OHL. However, Murray has made it pretty clear that it is unlikely Emery will be sticking around in Ottawa, for both his and the team's sake and ultimately, the decision is up to Murray.
The Ottawa Sun is reporting that Murray will exhaust all trade options before serving notice of a buyout. Which could mean that Emery won't be bought out by the draft as it is expected that any deal with Emery will have to include either a prospect or a draft pick.
Players under 26 are entitled to a buyout at one-third of their remaining deal. Players 26 and over get two-thirds. Emery turns 26 in September.
The buyout can be spread over four seasons, meaning a cap hit for the Senators of about $550,000 per season.
The Sun is also reporting that Brian McGrattan won't be given a qualifying offer as he is set to become a RFA on July 1st.
Posting Notice
I apologize if posting will be scarce over the next couple of days as I have some things that I need to sort out in my personal life that will probably take up most of my time. I also have to finalize my plans for the Big Bad Draft Blogger Party that is coming up this weekend.
Again, if anybody needs passes for the entry draft, I have some extras floating around that are up for grabs. Just let me know!
Oh and just to give you guys something to chuckle at, Yashin wants back in with the Islanders.
