Spreadsheet Fun!

When one is bored...one makes a spreadsheet. Here is what I think should be an accurate outlook for the Senators' salary situation for next season. Some things to consider though:

1) Foligno, Winchester and Lee are not necessarily a lock to make the team next year although Lee probably has the best chance. Not that clearing the salary will give the Senators much more space but it's something to keep in mind.

2) Nycholat has a one-way contract for next season so he will start the season with the team no matter what.

3) We have too many centres and not enough wingers.

4) I forgot to include Meszaros on the spreadsheet. He's currently RFA and without a contract but it doesn't appear that he's filed for arbitration either.

5) Comparing that to the list of Free Agents Left, if the free agent pool is the route the Senators want to go to fill its wingers-void then there doesn't appear to be much left except for maybe Brendan Shanahan who is both 1) old and not certain to play next year and 2) probably doesn't want to come to Ottawa.

6) Glen Murray was placed on waivers by the Bruins. Murray is a veteran guy but missed 19 games last year due to injury. I suppose you can add him to the "Maybe" list.

7) We might still need help on D. We seem to always need help on D!

Fantastic job, as usual Sherry, but what caught my eye was your line breakdown.

If that's the way we come out of camp, I foresee many sleepless nights and angry ANGRY words for yours truly. Holy crap do we need a second line...

    SLC, thanks very much.

I doubt that'll be our line combos coming out of camp, but with our present roster, I had to plug in people wherever they fit and yeah...we need some help.

I think Winchester also has a one-way contract so it seems like a good bet he'll be with the big team too. Meszaros, from what I understand, does not have arbitration rights. I'm not sure why that is!

Our team scares me a little. It scares me a little less now that Smith is there, but it still scares me. That top six forward people always talk about would be so nice right now. So nice.

You want Aucoin? Take him. Just take him. We can throw in Eriksson or Warrener too if you want.
